My photography advisors...Tiger Woods and Coco Chanel

    Sunday, August 30, 2009

The weiner dogs like to keep me company when I edit pictures on the sofa. Coco Chanel snoozes watchfully in the corner whilst Tiger Woods finds the little stream of warm air that emits from my Mac Book Pro and then zonks out. She has been snoring for about 20 minutes now

Picture taken on my iphone - couldn't bring myself to disturb them to grab the big camera :-)

Tiger takes image selection very seriously...

    Do you know someone/something deserving?

Wow - December 12th it is (thanks to Jeremy Cowart for the inspiration) Final details to be figured out but I've blocked my calendar to simply take portraits for people who need them. I'll be looking for your help - yes, that's right - you! I have about 500 visitors to my blog each month so I know you know someone....a person, a family, a charity, an organization, a place, a shelter, a movement, a something that needs pictures......more info to follow but I'm here at leah.haydock@comcast.net if you have suggestions.

    Back from a little vacation...

With the fantastic NE weather, weddings tend to be pretty seasonal and concentrated between June and October - I like to take a little break in between the Summer and Fall weddings so we headed up to Ogunquit, Maine to do a little camping. I haven't camped since I was maybe 8 years old...but it was pretty fun.

The rustling of the trees overhead as you sleep, the heat of the campfire on your back, the smoke of the fire in the potato, the sweetness of the smores and the joy of holding the winning hand of cards :)

Yes - I think there may be a little tear in my BCBG wrap-cardigan. Darn it!

Disclaimer: all photos taken on my little Sony Point&Shoot camera or the iPhone so apologies for the bluriness :-)

    Conversation at a wedding....

    Sunday, August 9, 2009

I photographed the BEST wedding yesterday, more about that later, right now I'm in the midst of downloading/processing the 52GB of memory cards that were shot.

Midway through the evening I'm with Derrick (from the fabulous Morin Photography who second shot with me), a wedding guest approaches and the most random conversation ensues...

Wedding guest [to me and Derrick]: Hey!!! You guys are doing an AWESOME job

    Me: Well, thank you

Wedding guest: I mean, you look like you're working really hard so that's awesome

    Me: Thanks, we're trying!

Wedding guest: Of course, we haven't seen the pictures yet so I guess we don't know if you're really doing an awesome job. You could have completely f*cked it all up...

Derrick [smiles]: Hopefully not, that's why you hire a professional

Wedding guest: Yeah, maybe you just look like you're working really hard....and really you've f*cked it up!

Me: Don't you worry, the joys of digital means that we check occasionally, so we know we're getting a bunch of great images.

Wedding Guest: Hmmm, we're getting married soon and we're hired a pro, I mean she has a website so she must be a pro right? Of course, if she f*cks it up we'll come after her...anyway, gotta go take a leak

Is it just me or is that pretty funny? The photographer involved is actually phenomenal by the way - stunning work :-)

    Allison + Jon :: Married

    Thursday, August 6, 2009

I'll be doing a more comprehensive blog very soon about the fabulousness that was Allison & Jon's wedding the weekend before last, but I just got my mitts on some beautiful new textures and couldn't resist trying them out....

And don't worry, the earth is really round, I used a fisheye lens for this shot which distorts the world a little hence the gentle curve in the horizon :-)

Oh ok, maybe one more...lots more fun stuff to come!

A little more Brett & Georgette!

    Brett + Georgette :: Engaged

    Monday, August 3, 2009

In just a few months time, I will be photographing the wedding of Brett & Georgette. Yay!
Last weekend we met up in Boston to photograph their lifestyle shoot.

Oftentimes, I'll be asked "what should we wear?" and my answer is always "whatever you feel comfortable in - as long as you don't clash with one another!"

But can I just admit to LOVING it when one of my brides rocks a cute dress with heels! And throw in some jewelry and I'm in heaven.

So when I saw Georgette I was so happy! Never mind the dress/heels/accessories - check out her sparkling eyes! Unfortunately you can't get that through eye drops - nope - just love! How cute are these two??

And Brett seems pretty happy too!

A typical lifestyle/engagement shoot involves wandering around our location with me muttering "hmmm, nice light here, how would you feel about standing against the wall/lying on the floor/making out" and how great are my clients when they do just that!

We were on our way to Beacon Hill when the light in the street just looked so perfect. I stood way back with my lovely 70-200 2.8 lens on and snapped away. A couple of passer-bys remarked "Huh - I'd like that job" to Brett & Georgette. They assumed they were professional models - I think you can understand why when you see this one...

I guess the official engagement portrait often includes a close-up of the engagement ring? Would this one count? Kind of hot I think!?!??

More lovely light in the public gardens...

SO excited for September!!! Brett & Georgette - hope you had as much fun as I did!!! And here's all the pictures from their shoot!
