Gould Barn Wedding :: Topsfield, MA :: Meg + Dave (Part II)

I love a good barn wedding, here in the Boston and New England area we're spoilt for choice with the Red Lion Inn in Cohassett, MA, the Smith Barn in Peabody, MA, the Barn at Gibbet Hillin Groton, MA (where I have Katie & Donnie's wedding in September!). Meg & Dave chose Gould Barn in Topsfield, MA for their wedding reception and after the beautiful ceremony in the Rose Garden at Lynch Park everyone hopped into thoughtfully provided trolleys to travel the short distance to Gould Barn.

Another shout out to Kristin of Local Color Flowers. I've had the pleasure of Kristin being the florist at three or four weddings that I've photographed now and her flowers are just beautiful everytime. And very very different. I've seen her do sophisticated and vibrant phalaenopsis immersed in tall vases with tiny tealights floating on top to rustic twig wrapped blue hydrangea. Always gorgeous. Speaking of gorgeous I adored Meg's simple silk jcrew wedding dress:

Whilst I took some relaxed family pictures, my second photographer Julia Snider shot this lovely scene setting picture:

I'll show you just a couple of the "formal" pictures. Not very formal at all and I think they're just right. Ada with Daddy and Meg:

Nothing better than an informal cocktail hour outside in the sunshine:

Even the little guys and gals had fun :)

Blackstone Valley Bluegrass played to welcome everyone [side note, the band also played at Corey & Isaiah's wedding that I photographed in 2009 and if you're looking for a bluegrass band for your wedding then they're the guys to call!]

As guests entered the barn they were wowed with Meg & Dave's family and friend's hard work stringing hundreds of twinkle lights in the rafters and floating little white butterflies from the ceiling:

Cute alternative to the standard guest book:

Place cards to direct guests to their tables were puzzle pieces lovingly made by Meg's sister Katy. Once all the guests were seated they could put their puzzle pieces together to make one of the images from Meg & Dave's engagement shoot:

A plethora of excellent toasts but special mention must go to Katy who told "the story of Meg & Dave" in the style of Dr. Seuss. And even more special mention to Dave who looks at Meg like he's the luckiest guy in the world:

Lantern Hill Catering did a wonderful job of making sure everyone had happy and full tummies:

Ada may have snuck outside to do some twirling in her flower girl dress:

Meg & Dave's wedding was pretty non-traditional - no formal introductions of the wedding party, no cake cutting, no official first dance - and I think it was just perfect and suited them wonderfully:

And just because there's no wedding cake doesn't mean there isn't dessert. Mmmmmm for wedding whoopie pies:

With the sun streaming through the barn doors and everyone thoroughly happy for Meg & Dave it was time for an impromptu YMCA:

And with that ladies & gentlemen I bid you farewell for today, lots of good stuff on the way including a rather magnificent wedding at Hamilton Hall in Salem, MA and a BUNCH of lovely engagement shoots!

To quote Dr. Seuss "Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened"
Meg & Dave (and Ada! And Katy and Kalyn and everyone else!) - what a wonderful day it was and what a wonderful future you'll have together. Thank you for choosing me as your wedding photographer it has been wonderful getting to know you! Much love to you both!
