Boston University Engagement Pictures :: Ariel + Bow

Just a few days ago I met up with Ariel and Bow to take their engagement pictures in the Public Gardens, on the Boston University Campus and down on the Esplanade. We started with a little cocktail at the Taj and then wandered over to the gardens:

Ariel and Bow initially met at orientation at BU however it wasn't until they found themselves in the same class at the School of Management that they got to talking.

Side note - I'm a huge Charlotte Olympia fan so I had major shoe envy happening when I saw Ariel & Bow's shoe choice for our pictures! 

The class was asked to pair up for an upcoming project. Bow asked Ariel if she's be his partner for the assignment. Ariel agreed but explained that she'd actually already completed the project due to an upcoming trip to NYC.

We stopped by Ariel & Bow's home for a quick outfit change and I got to meet their beautiful cats.   I think it's Luna on the left and Aslan on the right :) 

Bow therefore didn't have to do much work for the joint project and it only got better when the marks came back and Ariel & Bow had 18/20. Bow explains that Ariel is pretty smart but that he was smart for picking her as his classmate!

Our next stop was the BU campus:   

After that Ariel and Bow became firm friends, Bow would bring Ariel a Starbucks before every class and in return Ariel would give Bow advice on his latest dating dilemma. All of Ariel's friends would ask her if there was anything between then but Ariel insisted they were just friends.

One school vacation Ariel had plans to visit Beijing, Bow's home town. Bow offered to pick her up and realized he had "more than friends" feelings!

A relationship began and last year Bow planned a lunch at Per Se in New York City for Ariel with her parents and his mom in attendance. Prior to the lunch Bow had visited Cartier to buy an engagement ring.

The team at Cartier knew that Bow would be proposing at lunch and had arranged for champagne to be delivered. So on top of the pressure of proposing, Bow also had a waiter watching him constantly for a signal to bring the champagne over!

Ariel said yes, they all drank champagne and they'll be getting married at Wychmere in less than two weeks! You might be wondering what's happening in these pictures below. Ariel and Bow are super into photography themselves and Bow showed me his favorite profile picture that Ariel took. It involved some pretty impressive jumping skills so we decided to see exactly how high Bow could jump :) 

We wandered down to the Esplanade to find a pretty impressive night sky (and the occasional runner!)

Engagement Pictures at Boston University :: Marsh Chapel Photographer :: Aubrey + Mike

So I don't know who said that the busy season for wedding photographers is May-September but I think they forgot to send me the memo. It's been crazy busy over here with engagement shoots, anniversary shoots, video filming (you do NOT want to miss the blog everyday next week), speaking at a local photography conference and booking lots of exciting 2013 weddings.

Which is all awesome and fun but this little ol' blog feels a bit neglected. Not to worry. I have a fun engagement session at Boston University for you today, an actual proposal in Vermont tomorrow and an anniversary shoot on Friday. Next week is VIDEO week. No I'm not doing video now, still wedding photography only - it's a surprise... And the week after that I have headshots, a goergeous newborn baby boy and some fabulous vendor interviews - florists, Boston wedding venues and much more....

First up are Aubrey & Mike's engagement pictures on the Boston University (BU) campus. Aubrey and Mike got in touch with me through the fabulous Andria of Infinite Events (who I worked with on an amazing wedding at the Boston Aquarium with last June). I told Aubrey & Mike that they are lucky bunnies having Andria plan their wedding as she's beyond organized, so well prepared and just lovely to work with.

I met up with Aubrey and Mike at Eastern Standard and we had a little beer together. It was an unexpectedly cold day, kind of rainy/drizzly but Aubrey and Mike had fun regardless:


Aubrey had got out of a relationship and had gone out with her girlfriends to relax and dance. They were in a club when Mike and some of his friends came over to talk. Mike started dancing with Aubrey and Aubrey remembers thinking he was cute but that she wasn't interested in a random guy at a club. As luck would have it, Mike's friends knew Aubrey's friends and they all ended up going out for something to eat together.


Mike may have managed to get Aubrey's number and send a sweet "Goodnight" message at the end of the night. With their friends in common Mike invited Aubrey over to a poker night and that was that! They've been together ever since:


An interesting sculpture on the BU beach (I actually photographed engagement pictures here before once although it was a lot warmer! )

Boston University has lots of interesting places to photograph in and around. Here we are in the courtyard outside Marsh Chapel which is a super popular Boston University wedding venue.


Mike claims to not like having his picture taken but he was a trooper for the afternoon:


I even got him giggling whilst sitting with Aubrey on a bench on the BU beach:

Bye bye Aubrey and Mike, I'll see you next month when you get MARRIED!! So excited :)
